This thread does sum up the free vs commercial (expensive) software argument. There's a good reply part the way in that refutes almost every reason for using the GIMP (compared to Adobe Photoshop). All very good points that come down to ... "it works right out of the box".

Much the same can be said about the current state of the school network - it may be using 'free' s/w but it isn't working - not even comared to the old Windows '95 system we had.
